Where to start?

Where do you start when planting a church? What happens first?

Having recent read The Radical Reformission (Driscoll) and currently reading Total Church (Timmis and Chester) I’m fairly convinced by the initial foundation being relationships. That’s how Jesus started his worldwide church – close relationships with a few friends.

Then, I reckon, the ‘church’ needs to progress to a small, informal bible study. Teaching your new ‘disciples’ the basics of the gospel.

From there…who knows. There are a variety of paths. Head towards a mega-church (like Driscoll) or initiate a ‘church planting network’ (like Timmis and Chester) or, maybe more things will develop into a ‘traditional’ church – a larger group of people who meet regularly in a building…?
